    Acne Scars & Treatment Recommendations

I’d say treating clients with acne scarring is extremely rewarding. It’s not just about the before & after pictures, it’s about helping someone feel so good inside their skin. A process that’s completely life changing, for both myself and my client.

Remember, acne scarring is there because of a journey each client has undertaken, probably starting at their teenage years. Redness, pustules, inflammation and making it worse by piling on makeup. Trying different diets, excessive amount of skincare products, medication…the self-consciousness and insecurities playing havoc with everyday life.

Acne doesn’t go away just because the spots have, unfortunately it leaves behind scars. Both physically & emotionally.

So, how does acne scar the skin?

All acne scars start as blemishes. Spots that have become inflamed, causing the pores to get clogged with excess oil, sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria.  As the pores become filled with debris, they can rupture and spill their contents into the skin causing an infection.

If these blemishes are shallow, it will probably heal without leaving any trace. However, if the rupture of the pore wall is severe, it creates deep indentations.  The skin attempts to repair itself with generating new collagen fibres, but unfortunately usually never heal smoothly.

What can I use to treat my scarring?

I personally use Skinpen Precision to treat mine. It’s an FDA approved, medical device which safely remodels the skin. The treatment does this by causing controlled micro injuries to stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process. As a result of this, it also aids in boosting your collagen & elastin.

By remodelling the skin, it replaces damaged skin with healthy new skin cells for a smoother surface. This is a non-surgical, pain free treatment with very little downtime.

Skinpen Precision also treats Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. PIH isn’t technically a scar, but actually a patch of discoloured skin that’s left behind once the acne has gone.

What are the recommended amount of sessions?

As you know, everyone’s journey is different with acne, so it’s hard to say how many treatments are required. Usually we recommend around 6 sessions, one every 4-6 weeks.  As well as my clients using their prescribed skincare products at home, in between treatments for best results.
