On the inaugural day of Paris Haute Couture Week, Rahul Mishra unveiled his latest collection, aptly named ‘Superheroes.’ Recognised for his meticulous craftsmanship, Mishra’s showcase dazzled with intricate hand embroideries, zardozi details, and deft beadwork.
Runway Insights:
Inspired by DH Lawrence’s 1923 poem “Snake,” the runway transformed into a lyrical landscape. Dragonflies adorned sculptural forms, while silver lizards climbed cocoon-like silhouettes—a signature touch of Mishra’s artistry. The collection seamlessly blended haute couture flamboyance with biomimicry, showcasing designs ranging from diaphanous capes to high-fashion denims.
In a subtle tribute to both the theme and his Indian heritage, the dresses and jackets in the collection showcased a lattice pattern reminiscent of windows commonly found in India – the natural habitat of these insects. Mishra effortlessly combined avant-garde style with a poignant message, opting for beady-eyed lizards as motifs emerging from these crisscross patterns, breathing life into each garment.
Addressing the environmental conservation theme highlighted during the show, Mishra shared on Instagram: “Envisioning a future where the splendid ‘Dragonfly’ is first encountered by a young child in a biology lab as a mere specimen in a petri dish is disheartening.”
